# 10 mistakes when planning a trip to Disneyland Paris that you should avoid

Podcast Chispa Mágica

July 09, 2026 •9 min read

Planning a trip to Disneyland Paris is one of those things that starts with excitement and, many times, ends up full of doubts.

At first, it seems simple. You check dates, compare hotels, look at prices, watch a video, read reviews, and start imagining the trip. But the further you get, the more questions pop up: how many days do I need, which hotel to pick, when to book restaurants, which extras are worth it, how the official app works, or what to bring to the park.

And that is where many travelers get stuck.

In the second episode of Chispa Mágica Podcast , Juanma Delgado and Arancha Pérez talk about precisely that: **the 10 mistakes we see the most when planning a trip to Disneyland Paris** .

Not to tell you there's only one right way to travel, but to help you avoid decisions that can detract from the comfort, time, or magic of your experience.

Because many mistakes at Disneyland Paris don't happen when you're already inside the park. They happen much earlier, during trip preparation.

## 1.- Not knowing the official Disneyland Paris app well

The official Disneyland Paris app is a basic tool for navigating the park better.

From it, you can check wait times, show schedules, maps, restaurants, and other practical information that can help you a lot during your trip.

The mistake is downloading it or opening it for the first time when you're already there, in a hurry, with people around and a thousand things happening at once.

The ideal is to familiarize yourself with it before traveling. Spending a few minutes at home to see how it works can save you time and confusion when you're at the park.

Also, since the app's features can change over time, it's a good idea to always check it before your trip and look for updated information.

## 2.- Thinking Disney is just about rides

When people think of Disneyland Paris, the first thing that usually comes to mind is the rides. And that's normal. But Disney is much more than that.

It's also the shows, the parades, the characters, the music, the atmosphere, the restaurants, the shops, the details, and those moments that weren't part of the plan but end up becoming part of the memory. In fact, many families come back saying one of their best moments wasn't a specific ride, but a parade, a show, or simply strolling down Main Street with the castle in the background.

If you go with the mindset of *“riding everything”* , you might miss out on a very important part of the experience.

In Disney, often, what you remember most isn't what you rushed through. It's what you stopped to experience.

## 3.- Choosing dates without doing your research

Not every day is the same at Disneyland Paris. There are quieter seasons, others with more crowds, special dates, school holidays, long weekends, and times like Halloween or Christmas when the park completely transforms.

Sometimes, moving your trip by a week can lead to a more comfortable experience, better prices, or less pressure during the day. Other times, it might be worth it to travel during a busier season because you want to experience a special atmosphere.

The key isn't finding a perfect date for everyone. The key is knowing what you're choosing.

Looking for the best price, low crowds, or wanting to experience the Christmas or Halloween season are not the same thing.

## 4.- Not having to worry about reservations or experiences with limited spots

Some experiences shouldn't be left entirely to chance. Certain restaurants, meet-and-greets, activities, or specific special options might depend on availability, reservations, or the opening of specific spots.

The mistake usually comes from lack of knowledge. Many people don't even know something requires a reservation until it's too late. That's why, before traveling, it's a good idea to be clear on which experiences you are most excited about and check if they need advance booking, if they're managed through the official app, or if you need to watch out for a specific time.

A simple phone reminder can make the difference between experiencing it or missing out.

## 5.- Not taking footwear seriously

It might seem like basic advice, but it can completely change your trip. At Disneyland Paris you walk a lot. Much more than many people imagine before going. Not just because of the distance between areas, but because of the hours spent standing, the lines, going in and out, the shows, photos, meals, and the pace of the day.

That's why it's important to wear comfortable shoes and, above all, ones you've already broken in.

Breaking in new sneakers at Disneyland Paris usually isn't a good idea. A blister on the first day can ruin the rest of your trip, especially if you still have several days left.

Comfort in this regard is a very important part of planning.

## 6.- Paying for extras without knowing if you really need them

Another common mistake is booking extras out of fear, on impulse, or because someone said they were essential.

And they aren't always.

Some extras can be totally worth it on certain dates, for specific types of travelers, or if you're looking for a particular experience. For example, a reserved area for a show might be interesting if you're traveling during a very crowded time, if you want to secure a good spot, or if you prefer to wait more comfortably.

But that doesn't mean all the extras are necessary for every trip. The key is to decide wisely! Don't book out of fear or dismiss things out of ignorance, but choose what truly fits your trip.

## 7.- Thinking two days is always enough

With two days, you can visit Disneyland Paris. You can enter the parks, ride attractions, see things, and have a nice experience. However, that's very different from enjoying the park at a relaxed pace.

For a first visit, it often makes more sense to consider three or four days, especially if you want to see shows, ride attractions again, book a special restaurant, meet characters, and stroll around without feeling like the whole trip is a race against time.

If you only have two days, it can be done. But then you have to prioritize better and accept that you won't be able to see everything. Because the problem isn't going for two days, but trying to cram a trip that really needs more time into those two days.

## 8.- Leaving restaurants until the last minute

There are very popular restaurants at Disneyland Paris, especially the character dining restaurants and some of the most sought-after ones.

You don't need to book every meal of your trip. In fact, it's often good to leave some room for spontaneity. However, if there's a restaurant you're particularly excited about, don't wait until you get there because it might not be available and... It's really frustrating to arrive at the park and discover that the experience you've been imagining for months is already fully booked.

The recommendation is simple: book the important things in advance and leave flexibility for the secondary ones.

## 9.- Thinking characters are just for kids

We see this mistake a lot with couples, groups of friends, and adults traveling without children.

Sometimes they tell us: *“We'll leave the characters for the kids.”* .

And then, when they return, one of the things they remember most is precisely an encounter with a character. Because in most cases, the characters don't just take a photo. They interact, improvise, play, get into their role, and make that moment much more special than many adults expect.

You don't need to meet them all or wait in huge lines if you don't feel like it, but we do recommend experiencing at least one or two encounters because it can be a beautiful experience, whether you're traveling with kids or without.

Disneyland Paris isn't just for kids. And neither are the characters.

## 10. Not packing your park backpack well

The backpack can also make a difference. Some people enter the park with a huge backpack *"just in case"* and others enter practically empty-handed. The ideal is usually somewhere in between.

A portable charger is highly recommended because your phone gets used all day long: the official app, maps, wait times, schedules, reservations, photos, and videos.

It can also be useful to bring a reusable water bottle, an essential rain jacket if the forecast looks iffy, sunscreen when needed, bandages, and the must-haves if you're traveling with kids.

And a simple tip: check the weather before leaving the hotel.

There's need to pack your whole house. But definitely bring what you need to enjoy the day comfortably.

## Most mistakes are avoided before you even reach the park

If we had to sum up this episode in a single idea, it would be this:

**Most mistakes at Disneyland Paris don't happen inside the park. They happen beforehand, while you're planning the trip.**

And that's good news, because it means many of them can be avoided.

With info.

With planning.

By knowing your options inside and out.

And, if you need it, having someone who can help you make better decisions.

At Chispa Mágica, we don't believe there is just one single perfect trip for everyone. The important thing is finding the trip that fits you: your dates, your budget, your group, your pace, and your way of having fun.

Not necessarily the most expensive one. Not necessarily the longest one. But the one you'll truly experience with more peace of mind, more excitement, and less stress.
