Pandora and the attractions you should prioritize
Although Animal Kingdom is not the park with the most attractions at Walt Disney World, it does feature very powerful experiences. It is a more intense attraction, exceptionally well-themed and perfect for those looking for a bit more adrenaline without losing that sense of journey and exploration that defines Animal Kingdom.
Pandora also changes greatly depending on the light. During the day, it impresses with its scale and forms; as evening falls and into the night, the atmosphere becomes more immersive. There is no need to promise shorter lines at closing, as that depends on the day, the season, and park operations. But it is good advice to set aside some final time to stroll through the area at a leisurely pace, take in the details, and say goodbye to the park without rushing.
Who is Animal Kingdom especially worth it for?
Animal Kingdom is usually very popular with those who understand that Disney is not just about riding attractions. It is a very interesting park for adults without children, couples, families with children who already enjoy observing animals, and travelers who want to alternate intense days with a more natural outing. It can also surprise first-timers, provided they do not arrive expecting a smaller version of Magic Kingdom.
I wouldn't say it's "less Disney". I'd say it's Disney told in a different language. Here, the thrill doesn't always come in the form of a castle or nighttime spectacular. Sometimes it appears in a pleasant patch of shade after walking, in the relative silence of a trail, in a giraffe crossing the savanna, or in that feeling of being in a park that doesn't need to shout to leave a lasting impression.
Therefore, when planning Walt Disney World, Animal Kingdom should not simply be placed “wherever it fits.” You need to decide carefully which day to visit, how much time to dedicate to it, which attractions to prioritize, and how to combine it with the rest of the trip. Walt Disney World is a huge resort, with four theme parks, hotels, internal transportation, restaurants, and many prior decisions that influence fatigue and the final experience.

If this is your first visit to Animal Kingdom, I would start the day with a clear priority: securing Avatar Flight of Passage or, at least, having a realistic strategy to avoid leaving it to chance. Then, I would dedicate the morning to Kilimanjaro Safaris and to walking the park with less haste than you would have on other days at Walt Disney World.
By midday, it is a good idea to listen to the group. Animal Kingdom can involve quite a bit of walking, heat, and sensory stimuli, so not everyone experiences it the same way. Sometimes the best plan is not to add more things, but to leave some room to eat at a leisurely pace, revisit an area you enjoyed, or sit down for a while before continuing.
And if the park schedule permits, I would save a final stroll through Pandora for the end. Not as an obligation, but as a nice way to close out the day. Some parks say goodbye with fireworks. Animal Kingdom, many times, says goodbye better by slowing down the pace.
